MARRIOTT: SHowcase

(2017)

This project was completed during my time at Accomplice. We were hired by Fjord and worked in collaboration with their team to build an experiential activation to tell the story of Marriott’s new mobile app system. The app is a consumer and employee-facing app that allows seamless real-time communication of requests, member account management and purchases within the hotel.

We built three black-box rooms and fitted them with furniture to simulate three different experiences that guests may have at the hotel - a front desk lobby, a room, and a pool deck. In each of these rooms we highlighted features of the app in different situations with pseudo-holographic projection on the front face of the rooms. We did this with a highly transparent projection scrim material called Hologauze. We shot multiple personas on green screen to composite them into the scene at real-life size to bring these stories to life.

We used a Dataton Watchout media server to control all of the projection content in tandem with an ETC EOS lighting console to control all of the lighting fixtures. This included practicals such as table lamps to simulate a light bulb burning out in the hotel room. The linear show was built on a cueing system controllable via an iPad so the client could run tours easily on their own.

The activation was built in Marriott’s R&D facilities at their Bethesda, MD world headquarters. It was active for 6 weeks and held tours daily.
